I learned that I don't like to work with BURLAP... although its a nice textured look it's also messy!
I bought a yard of burlap (this was before I realized I didn't like it) from Wal-Mart $3.50 per yd. (FYI Wal-Mart has their fabric section back as of last month October 2011) then one package of round/circle magnets $2, flowers pckg of 6 for $2.99 and the magnet sheet 12x18 from Home Depot $4.99. The black ribbon I already had and lots of glue sticks!!
1. Spray paint the magnet board with a cream color so the metal wont shine through the burlap.
2. Hot glue 4 strips of cardboard box at 2" wide (some use cork board) to line the back of the magnet board, this is to make it thicker than the paper thin sheet that it is.
3. Lay the magnet board on top of the burlap cutting a 2" seam allowance all around in order to hot glue it to the cardboard strips on the back.
4. Hot glue one side then tug to make a tight fit with a 2" seam allowance, pull tight so it's not loose.
5. Cut a 21" black ribbon piece and hot glue it to the back 3" in from either side (this is to hang it).
6. Cut another piece of black ribbon this time 9" long, tie a knot in the middle and with a dab of hot glue place it in the middle and then a dab of hot glue for then ends of the ribbon to stay put accross the board.
7. Cut a rectangle piece of burlap leaving a 1/4" space from the edges all around (you can cut later if you see it sticking out from the front view, burlap is ment to look a little messy) now hot glue that to the back.
8. Finally, hot glue the flower embelishments to the magnets and TADA, you're all done!
